The National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) is a nonprofit organization that provides high-quality assessment products, services, and research for the benefit and protection of the public and the legal profession. We assist state courts and licensing authorities with fulfilling their responsibility to determine minimal competence for entry to the legal profession.

The Visual Designer is responsible for designing and updating NCBE print and digital materials whose primary audience is external stakeholders. The designer is a member of the Communications team who collaborates closely with all team members to produce high-quality products. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Assists staff on best practices using logos, colors, fonts, and imagery to be compliant with NCBE identity guidelines.

  • Assists with design and content updates for all NCBE public and secure websites.

  • Selects and prepares images for various platforms, including websites, presentations, emails, and social media channels. Helps ensure websites and email communications are compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility standards.

  • Helps produce and update publications, including the Bar Examiner magazine, Comprehensive Guide to Bar Admission Requirements, and Year in Review. Works closely with Editorial and Communications staff; prepares files for print and online access.

  • Assists with the design and production of NCBE materials and templates, such as study aids, reports, white papers, corporate identity materials, online learning videos/modules, presentations, email communications, and more.

  • Works closely with Meetings and Events staff to help produce various media for NCBE educational conferences and events, including print materials, signage, email communications, promotional items, presentations, and more.

  • Reviews and edits PowerPoint presentations for in-person and virtual events with the goal of creating a visually appealing experience consistent with NCBE brand standards.

  • Color corrects and crops photos taken at NCBE events for various uses. Helps maintain photo library. May assist with photography at NCBE events.

  • Assists in remediating pdf documents to meet ADA accessibility standards.

  • Adheres to NCBE branding standards, security procedures, and policies.

  • Stays up-to-date on current design and communication trends.


  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field.

  • A minimum of 1 year of work experience in a related field.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop creating and preparing graphics for print and digital uses.

  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office Suite. 

  • Experience in Adobe Illustrator is preferred.

  • Experience in CMS (preferably WordPress) updating text, graphics, and layouts.

  • Strong work ethic and keen eye for quality design.

  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills.

  • Strong verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Professional and positive attitude.

  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.

  • Experience with Acrobat pdf accessibility remediation, developing PowerPoint presentations, and photographing people/events is a bonus.

The Visual Designer may work a remote schedule.
